In a brake guide the yarn passes between two discs and the tension is set by spring pressure, so all the friction collects on the disc faces. Because the ceramic face stays hard and smooth, the tension you set holds through the run. The unit is supplied complete in ceramic, plastic and metal, and is adjusted by hand from the knob.
