A traverse guide is in constant motion, so both the tip the yarn runs over and the mounting point of the arm are under load. The contact face at the tip is ceramic — it stays hard and leaves no mark on the yarn; the carrier body is plastic and the fasteners are metal, which keeps the arm light but durable.
